Pair of freshmen paces women's cross country at Emmanuel Tri-Meet

BOSTON, MA - The Wheelock College women's cross country team opened its 2010 season at the Emmanuel College Tri-Meet on Saturday at Roberto Clemente Field, where freshmen Danielle Gaudette (Nashua, NH/Nashua South) and Jessica Ramsey (Milford, MA/Hopedale) turned in the Wildcats' top two finishes.

Wheelock took third among three teams, totaling 63 points to fall eight short of second-place Emerson College. Host Emmanuel topped the field with 20 points.

Ramsey clocked in at 14:39 for an 11th-place finish in her collegiate debut, while Gaudette followed at 14:42 in 13th. Junior Maria Sideri (North Andover, MA/North Andover) was 16th in 15:06, and sophomore Kailah Simon (Norwalk, CT/Norwalk) nabbed 18th place with a time of 15:12.

The next trio of Wildcats finished within two seconds of one another, as juniors Liz Connolly (Belchertown, MA/Belchertown) and Sarah Negron (Whitinsville, MA/Northbridge) and senior Stephanie Chase (Worcester, MA/Doherty Memorial) came in 23rd, 24th and 25th, respectively.

Wheelock is back in action next Saturday at the Roger Williams University Invitational, which begins at 11 a.m.
