LaBossiere scores two goals on the week, lifts Wildcats over Newbury
Chestnut Hill, Mass. - Freshman Brook LaBossiere
(Mattapoissett, MA) scored what would prove to be the game winning
goal in the second half of Saturday's game to give Wheelock a 3-2
victory over Newbury College and their first win in the newly
formed New England Collegiate Conference (NECC). The win improves
the Wildcats to 1-0 in the conference and 2-0 on the season.
After falling behind 1-0, senior Stacy
Seidner (Pembroke, NH) tied the game with an unassisted goal.
Newbury took the lead a second time when the Eagles' Jessica Graus
scored her second goal of the game. The score remained 2-1 until 15
minutes into the second half when Lindsey Lacourse (Scarborough,
ME) scored on an assist from Alana Dias (Swansea, MA). LaBossiere
scored the game winner a few minutes later to put Wheelock on top
for good.
Earlier in the week the Wildcats dropped a
8-2 decision to Eastern Nazarene College. LaBossiere and first-year
Haley Butler (Yarmouthsport, MA) scored the two goals. Sophomore
goalie Victoria Ferndandes (Randolph, MA) recorded 16 saves in the
loss and four more on Saturday against Bay Path.
