Women’s soccer battles to tie in double overtime

Women's soccer battles to tie in double overtime

Chestnut Hill, MA - The Wildcats of Wheelock and Bay Path College battled to a 1-1 tie in double overtime Tuesday afternoon in conference play. Bay Path scored the first goal five minutes into the game when junior Jessica Hunt (Madison, CT) knocked in a pass from Silvia Galvan (Wilbraham, MA).
It looked as though the Bay Path team might score its first win of the season until Wheelock's Lindsey Lacourse (Scarborough, ME) headed a pass from Nicki Wilson (Brighton, MA) with less 1:36 left in regulation to tie the game 1-1 and send it into overtime. Bay Path junior goalkeeper Samantha Gunseth (Swanzy, NH) recorded 15 saves in the tie, while Wheelock sophomore Nicole Zina (Bristol, RI) stopped two shots in her season debut.
The tie puts Wheelock at 2-3-1 overall and 1-0-1 in conference play. Bay Path's record moves to 0-5-1 on the season and 0-2-1 in the NECC. Wheelock next takes on Mitchell College at Mitchell September 30th at 4:00 in conference action.
