Brown nets 17 points in loss to UMass Boston

CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. - Wheelock senior Sarah Brown (Plainville, Conn.) had the hot hand Thursday night, scoring 17 points, but a cool shooting second half by the Wildcats resulted in a 60-34 loss to UMass Boston. Junior Kristen Penny (West Roxbury, Mass.) led the charge for the Beacons, scoring 15 points in a 5-10 performance from the field and led her team with ten boards. Teammate Kate Levy (Falmouth, Mass) chipped in 13 points, while Caroline Ashey (West Roxbury, Mass) also hit double digits with 10 points.
Despite the final score, the Wildcats led by as many as five in the first period, and went into the locker room trailing only 19-18 at the half. Elise Ordile (Waltham, Mass.) nailed a jumper to give the Wildcats an 8-3 advantage with 13:17 remaining. But UMass Boston launched a 14-2 run over the next seven minutes to take a lead that would never be relinquished.
The Beacons started the second half with a 22-2 run to put the game out of reach for the Wildcats, highlighted by six points from Freshman Elizabeth Dow (Marshfield, Mass.), who finished the game with six points. UMass was 13-23 from the field in the second half, including 4-7 from behind the arc in netting their third win of the season, evening their mark at 3-3. UMass out-rebounded Wheelock 44-24.
Brown led all scores with 17, and it was freshman Keneisha Milton (Boston, Mass.) who led the Wildcats in boards with ten on the night, as the team dropped to 0-3 on the season. Wheelock will next face off against Lassell Saturday at noon at Lassell while UMass hosts Keane State Saturday at one.
