Wildcats fall on last second shot

Chestnut Hill, Mass. - For the second time this season, the Wheelock women's basketball team fell in dramatic fashion, when Southern Vermont's Markeisha Mullen (Winsor Mill, MD) nailed a three pointer with two seconds remaining to give the Mountaineers a 66-64 win over the Wildcats Thursday night.

The exciting finish was set up when Wheelock's Sharrell Brown (Brooklyn, NY) nailed a pair of free throws with 21 seconds remaining to give her team a one point advantage. The Mountaineers ran time off the clock before finding Mullen open in the corner for the winning shot. The win gives the two teams a split in the season series, as Southern Vermont avenged a 64-44 loss from January.

The Wildcats were led by the hot hand of junior Sarah Brown who scored a season and game-high 31 points including a 12-15 night from the floor with five triples. Brown also led her team in rebounding, ripping down 12 boards.

Southern Vermont was led by Joa Claircius (Clairmont, FL) who scored 30 points, while Mullen chipped in 13.

The Wildcats will wrap up the season on Saturday afternoon when they host Mitchell College at Pine Manor, while the Mountaineers will close out the regular season when the team hosts Becker College on Saturday.
