Battista making immediate impact for Wheelock basketball team

Boston, Mass. -Wheelock College freshman forward Jessica Battista (Johnston, R.I.) was named New England Collegiate Conference Rookie of the Week for her outstanding performance during the first week of December.

Battista averaged 10.5 points per game, five rebounds, two assists and 2.5 steals per game for the week. The Wildcats went 0-2 on the week, falling in two hard fought battles against Anna Maria, 58-56, and Pine Manor, 63-59. For the week, she shot a perfect 100 percent (4-for-4) from the line, 33 percent (2-of-6) and 29 percent (7-of-24) from the field.

Seven games into the season, Battista is leading the Wildcats overall scoring and points per game, averaging 9.0 points per contest. The 5'6" forward is also leading Wheelock in free throw percentage and blocked shots. 

Battista is an Elementary Education major at Wheelock, and a 2008 graduate of St. Mary's Academy-Bay View.
