ATTLEBORO, MA – Wheelock College women's lacrosse player Meghan Lewis (South Berwick, ME) was named the New England Collegiate Conference Rookie of the Week for the week of March 3-9, it was announced today by the conference.
The freshman was historic in her collegiate debut for the Wildcats, stopping a school-record 31 shots in Wheelock's 15-3 loss to visiting Thomas College on March 8 and did not allow a goal in the final 8:57 of play. Her save total is the most in a game by any player in NCAA Division I, II or III this season. Not only did the Marshwood High School product shatter the Wildcats' mark for saves in a game, but she also posted a sterling 64.7% save percentage to go with a pair of ground balls and a caused turnover.
Lewis easily leads the NECC in save percentage and saves per game, while ranking seventh among national Division III leaders in percentage and first in saves per game. Her save percentage is the highest for any player in the nation with at least 31 saves.
Wheelock is currently 0-1 on the season and will be in action again on Tuesday, March 18 when it hosts Curry College at Hedley Field on the campus of Pine Manor College in Chestnut Hill, MA.
