Kennedy earns first ECAC weekly accolade in Wheelock history

BOSTON, MA - Wheelock College women's lacrosse junior Karlye Kennedy (Byfield, MA/Triton Regional) was named Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Division III New England Defensive Co-Player of the Week for the week ending on Sunday, April 24.

Kennedy's ECAC accolade was the first ever drawn by a Wildcat, as Wheelock joined the league earlier this school year. She helped the Wildcats go 1-1 last week, as the midfielder set a pair of school records while lifting her squad to the first victory in program history. Kennedy averaged 2.5 goals, 7.5 draw controls, 6.0 ground balls and 1.0 caused turnover during the week.

Kennedy notched four goals and an assist on Saturday to go along with five draw controls and a season-best eight ground balls, propelling Wheelock past Daniel Webster College, 23-13, for the program's initial win. On Wednesday, Kennedy totaled a season-high 10 draw controls in addition to four ground balls and a goal during an 18-10 loss to Rhode Island College, as the Wildcats trailed by only five goals until the latter stages of the game.

For the season, Kennedy has 11 goals and one assist, as she is tied for third on the squad with 12 points. Her 34 draw controls pace all Wildcats, she is tied for first with 10 caused turnovers, and her 26 ground balls are second on the team.
