WESTON, MA - Junior forward Keneisha Milton (Boston, MA) scored a season-high 18 points to lead the Wheelock College women's basketball team in an 85-37 loss to host Regis College (MA) in a New England Collegiate Conference contest this afternoon at Higgins Court in Weston, MA. The Wildcats fall to 0-12 overall and 0-6 in league play, while the Pride improve to 9-3 and 6-0.
Milton was 7-11 from the field and 4-5 from the line for Wheelock, while adding six rebounds, three assists, three steals and a blocked shot. Senior forward Kayla Drescher (Wallingford, CT) netted a season-best 11 points, while pulling down four rebounds, handing out an assist, making a steal and blocking a shot. Junior guard Kailah Simon (Norwalk, CT) chipped in with four points and a pair of rebounds in 14 minutes of action.
Regis began the first half behind the strong offensive play of sophomore Claire Ramonas (Portland, ME). Ramonas led the Pride during a 10-point run in the first five minutes of play. The Wildcats answered back with a jumper from Drescher to cut the lead to eight. Regis responded with an up-tempo defensive set that limited the visitors to 16 points for the remainder of the half, while the Pride scored 41 points before the intermission. Regis rounded out the first half of play with two deep three-pointers from Lauren Kimble (Concord, CA). The score at the half was 51-18 in favor of the Pride.
The second half opened with the Regis offense hitting full stride. Crawford, Marro, Ramonas, and Kimble would all hit double digits in the scoring at the end of the second half. Ramonas compiled a team-high total of 18 points for the game.
Regis returns to action on January 17, when the Pride hosts NECC opponent Newbury College at 5:30 p.m. The Wildcats return to action on Tuesday night as well, when they host the Elms College at 7:30 p.m. at Brunelli Court on the campus of Pine Manor College in Chestnut Hill, MA.
