Rachael Johnson steps onto the diamond in her first year at Wheelock College with a proven track record for success.
The Connecticut native was the Varsity Softball Coach for Litchfield High School in 2009 and 2010, where she led the squad to a third place finish in the Berkshire League in just her first year and a second round appearance in the State Tournament. This past season, she remained in Massachusetts full-time and guided the Hopkinton Middle School eighth grade team to an impressive 12-1-1 record.
Johnson has already established herself as a successful mentor at Wheelock, guiding the field hockey team to its first-ever regular season New England Collegiate Conference crown and a spot in the NECC Tournament semifinals.
Prior to her arrival to the Riverway Campus, she spent three seasons as the Assistant Field Hockey Coach for Division II Bentley College, where she helped guide the Falcons to a pair of NCAA tournament appearances, including a spot in the final four in 2008. Bentley compiled a 40-23 record during Johnson’s time on the sideline, while capturing a pair of NE-10 Conference crowns.
Before her success in the coaching ranks, Johnson starred at Lasell College for four seasons of field hockey, while earning North Atlantic Conference Rookie of the Year honors in 2004. A three-year Captain, Johnson continued her dominance for the Lasers, garnering All-Conference accolades each season, including First Team recognition as a junior. In each of her final two campaigns, the Litchfield, Connecticut native was named to the NAC All-Academic team as well.
Johnson has shared her field hockey knowledge as Director of the Northwest Corner Field Hockey Camp for four years, while also serving as a counselor at the White Mountain Field Hockey Camp.
She has also served as an Assistant Coach for the Litchfield High School junior varsity girls’ basketball team.
Johnson is a 2008 Cum Laude graduate of Lasell with a degree in sports management and a minor in coaching.
