Softball team ready to build on last season

BOSTON, Mass. – After losing only one starter from the 2009 squad, the Wheelock softball team is looking to build on last year’s success and make a run at the 2010 New England Collegiate Conference title.  The Wildcats had a successful trip to Florida where they competed in the Gene Cusic Softball Classic.

Sophomore Nicole Perullo (Revere, Mass.) will move into the number one pitching slot after a solid freshman season, while newcomer Ashley Quan (Belmont, Mass.) and junior Nicole Zina (Bristol, RI) will share duties in the number two pitching spot. Erin Godfrey (Millbury, Mass.) will assume the catching responsibilities.

Seniors Elise Ordile (Waltham, Mass.) and Erin Reardon (Old Town, Maine) will anchor the middle of the infield at shortstop and second base respectively, while 2009 NECC All-Conference player Zina will hold down the hot corner at third base. Senior Val Cook (Walpool, Mass.) and junior Nicole Rapsis (Nashua, NH) will split time at first base.

Freshman Shannon Hughes and sophomore Sarah Negron (Whitinsville, Mass.) will split time in center field, while Sara Buscemi, Sarah Novak, Lindsey Lacourse, Kristen Brock, Jacky Hull, and Jeanily Cruz will all share time in the corner outfield spots.

The Wildcats begin conference action on March 29th when they host Lesley University.
