Wildcat bats quiet in losses to Mitchell

NEW LONDON, Conn. - Wheelock senior Stacy Seidner (Pembroke, NH) scattered seven hits over seven innings and gave up only one earned run, but the Wildcat bats were silent as Wheelock fell 2-0 to Mitchell College in the first game of a double-header Monday afternoon.

Freshman Kristina Torres (Groton, CT) picked up the win for Mitchell in the first game, as she went the distance and gave up only two hits and struck out six.  In game two, Wheelock knocked out three hits, as freshman Nicole Perullo (Revere, MA) went 2-3 with an RBI. Five errors helped give way to nine runs, however, as the Mariners went on to a 9-1 win and the series sweep.  Perullo struck out three, but took the loss on the mound for the Wildcats.

Marissa Thomas (New London, CT) picked up the win in game two, as she only allowed three hits and one run in six innings of work.

In game one, the Mariners would only need two runs to secure the victory, and they scored first in the bottom of the first inning.  Nikki Hoxie (Winsted, CT) singled, and Liz Roy (Jewett City, CT) picked up an RBI as she knocked in the run.  Mitchell would then score their only other run in the bottom of the fifth inning on singles by Lindsey Donelin (Niantic, CT) and Roy.

In the second game, Mitchell was able to generate much more offense, while the defense and pitching was nearly flawless.  Donelin went 3-for-4 with a run and an RBI, while Hoxie also went 3-for-4  with two runs and an RBI.  Stacey Suplicki (New London, CT)  went 2-for-3 and knocked in two runs while also playing error-free ball at her shortstop position.

Wheelock next takes on Mount Ida College Tuesday afternoon for a double-header beginning at 3:00.
