Bay Path sweeps Wheelock in conference play
Chestnut Hill, Mass. - Bay Path College used the long ball in the first game and timely hitting in the second to take both ends of a double-header with Wheelock College on Saturday afternoon in New England Collegiate Conference play. The Wildcats won the first game 8-2 behind the pitching of Kristal Cormier (Rochester, NH), and took the second 13-4, in a five inning win from Jess Nizinski (West Springfield, MA).
Maeghan Whitcomb (Lyndon, VT) was 3-3 with two home runs and four RBI's to lead Bay Path to an 8-2 win in game one. Teammate Sarah Gates (Crown Point, IN) went deep, while Kaitlin Begin (Weare, NH) and Nizinski both enjoyed multiple hit games for Bay Path.
Wheelock freshman Mary Porter (East Falmouth, MA) notched both RBI's for Wheelock in the first game, while junior captain Elise Ordile (Waltham, MA) was 2-3 with a run scored in the first game. Senior Stacy Seidner (Pembroke, NH) took the loss for Wheelock, allowing eight runs on 13 hits while striking out three.
In game two, Porter hit an inside the park home run and
sophomore Nicole Zina (Bristol, RI) took a 1-1 pitch over the left
field fence for a two run shot, but it was too little too late, as
Wheelock lost 13-4 in an abbreviated game. For Bay Path, Sarah
Wright (Canterbury, NH), Sarah Palmer (Topsham, ME), and Jess
Nizinski each had multi-hit games, while six different Wildcats
knocked in runs. Nizinski four runs on four hits while striking out
two to record the win. Freshman Nicole Perullo (Revere, MA) took
the loss for Wheelock.
Wheelock will next face off against Lesley University Tuesday
afternoon in Cambridge.
