Chang and Venning battle strong in final regular season match
Boston, Mass. – Wilson Chang (Lee, MA) won his number one
singles battle for the third match in a row and Bobby Venning
(Greenfield, NH) took the number two singles spot as Wheelock fell
to Lesley University 5-4 in the final regular season tennis match
Thursday evening.
Chang defeated Lesley’s Dave Newton 6-2, 2-0, winning the
second set by retirement, while Venning battled to a tough 7-5 win
in the first set, before cruising to a 6-0 second set win over the
Lynx’ Sonny Ljutica.
The duo of Chang and Venning also teamed up for a number one
doubles victory over Lesley’s Fran Cusick and Ljutica,
winning 8-3.
In the number three singles spot, Lesley’s Cusick defeated
Kate Needham (North Conway, NH) 6-1, 7-5, while Pete Parales
defeated Wildcat Anya Pagala (Garnerville, NY) 6-2 and 7-6.
Lesley’s Tyler Reeves defeated Wheelock’s Rachael
Zuckerman (Westport, CT) 6-1, 6-0 in the number six singles.
In doubles, Lesley’s combination of Tyler Reeves and AJ Lazo
defeated Needham and Pagala 8-3. The Lynx forfeited the number
three doubles spot to Wheelock.
Both teams will resume play this weekend in the NECC tournament
which will be hosted by Newbury College at Pine Manor College in
Brookline, MA.
