Cambridge, Mass. - Wheelock College (1-13, 0-7) stumbled to Becker College (4-14, 1-6) in New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) men's soccer action on Saturday afternoon.
How It Happened: The Hawks struck early when freshman forward Colby Koch (Norfolk, Mass.) scored in the 12th minute of the game. It was Koch's fourth goal of the season, and was assisted by freshman midfielder Leemar Baptista (Brockton, Mass.).
Becker would go into halftime up 2-0 when senior midfielder Cody Lavallee (Burrillville, R.I), playing in the final home game in his collegiate career, scored his second goal of the season on a direct kick in the 43rd minute. Finally, Baptista scored his team-leading fifth goal of the season in the 61st minute.
The Wildcats were led by freshman forward Ian Sobral (Sao Paolo, Brazil) with four shots on the day. Including a strike, from the top of the pitch, that freshman goalkeeper Sam Majewski (Warren, Mass.) was just able to save with his right hand.
Who Stood Out: Freshman defensemen Patrick Gomes (Lisbon, Portugal) had two shots on goals as well as several key blocks in the defensive end. Wheelock senior goalkeeper Jordan Bernard (Westbrook, Conn. / Westbrook) finished the day with 12 saves and 179 career saves.
What It Means: Tonight's action marks the end of the 2017-2018 regular season for the young Wildcats.
