BOSTON, Mass. - Wheelock men's soccer (1-12) faced off against Lesley University in a New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) match-up. The Lynx used two penalty kicks to move to 8-6-1 and maintain a first place seed for the conference tournament.
How It Happened: The match was even for the first 15 minutes of play until the Lynx were given a penalty shot on a foul called insode the box. Nuno Pereira (Sao Filipe, Fogo, Cape Verde) lined up the kick and sent the ball to the lower left corner of the goal and just out of the reach of the diving Wheelock goalie.
Lesley added to their lead 19 minutes later when Tiago Pacheco (Cranston, R.I.) crossed the ball and a Wheelock defender kicked the ball into his own goal in an attempt to clear it. The Lynx led 2-0 at halftime.
Lesley had their second penalty kick in the 64th minute when Shane Rockenbach (Long Beach, Calif.) sent the ball into the goal. The Lynx had another attempt at a penalty kick, but Wheelock's goalie Jordan Bernard (Westbrook, Conn.) kept the Lynx off the board. Lesley's final goal came in the 79th minute off a kick from Beowulf Urban (Blue Hills, Maine).
Who Stood Out: The senior goal tender Bernard had another tremendous game recording 21 saves in his final home contest.
What It Means: Wheelock has played the top two teams in the conference over the past two games following their win.
