Brookline, Mass. - The Wheelock College soccer team fell 4-1 to Newbury College in New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) men's soccer action on Saturday afternoon. With the loss, the Wildcats fall to 0-10 overall and 0-4 in the conference, while the Nighthawks improve to 4-10 overall and 2-2 in the NECC.
How It Happened: A balanced attack from the Nighthawks, led by a pair of goals from sophomore Nilton De Andrade, led Newbury to the victory at Hellenic College. Alex Strafer and Nicholas Olivares-Thompson also had goals for the Newbury College.
Wheelock got on the board when Pasulayman Sowe (Lynn, Mass.) found the back of the net when the Wildcats were awarded a penalty kick in the 86th minute.
Once again, Wheelock's goalkeeper Jordan Bernard (Westbrook, Conn.) had an outstanding day in goal with 16 saves for the Wildcats, including several diving stops. Newbury's Chris Tran (Nantucket, MA) earned the win in net for the Nighthawks, with two saves, improving to 2-2 on the season.
Who Stood Out: Freshman Midfielder Pasulayman Sowe notched his first goal of the 2017 season for the Wildcats.
What It Means: Wheelock looks to be NECC contenders with three strong conference matches against Dean College, Lesley University, and Becker College scheduled in the upcoming weeks.
