BOSTON, Mass.- Wheelock men's soccer (0-3) had a heartbreaking loss to Johnson State College (3-0) in a back and forth battle at Winsor Field.
How It Happened: The Wildcats struck first when freshman forward Ian Sobral (Sao Paolo, Brazil) scored off a give and go from fellow freshman midfielder Pasulayman Sowe (Lynn, Mass.). The Badgers answered with their own goal on a cross from sophomore forward Rob Buonanno (Wolcott, Vt.) to freshman midfielder Christopher Trivieres (Georgia, Vt.).
Sobral went on to drill a go-ahead-goal in the back of the net when Wheelock was awarded a free kick at the 79th minute mark. Johnston State continued to apply press in the offensive zone, which led to Jarod Croteau (Loudonville, N.Y.) scoring the tying goal with less than two minutes remaining in the game. Croteau went on to score the game-winning goal, on a cross from Dominic Caforia (Waterbury, Vt.), in overtime.
Who Stood Out: Wheelock's goalkeeper Jordan Bernard (Westbrook, Conn.) produced another solid outing with 13 saves including 10 in the second half alone. Pasilayman Sowe made some key defensive stops on top of his four shots and one assist.
What It Means: The Wildcats has put together a completive string of games and look forward to building momentum in the upcoming conference matches.
