Shearer Sets Career High for Saves vs. Emmanuel for Men's Soccer

CHESTNUT HILL, MA - Sophomore keeper Sunshine Shearer (English Harbor, Antigua) registered a career-high 13 saves for the Wheelock College men's soccer team in a 10-0 loss at the hands of visiting Emmanuel College this afternoon at Hedley Field on the campus of Pine Manor College in Chestnut Hill, MA.  The Wildcats fall to 0-3 on the year, while the Saints improve to 4-1-4.

Freshman Jonathan Krouse (Northborough, MA) put pressure on the Emmanuel defense with three shots on the day, while junior Francisco Perez (Boston, MA/O'Bryant HS) also recorded a shot for the home team.

Sophomore forward Allan Parrelli (Reading, MA) registered a hat trick and added an assist to lead the Saints.  Parrelli's first score came after he collected the ball in the right quadrant of the box and ripped a shot from 10 yards out past the Wheelock keeper, who came out to meet the ball at the 20:12 mark of the first half.  Parrelli's second tally gave Emmanuel a 7-0 advantage when freshman forward James Carroll (Guilford, CT) placed a cross to the right corner of the net that was met by Parrelli's foot for a goal-scoring shot into the far side of the net at 57:59 of the second period.  He struck again less than four minutes later with his team-leading fifth marker of the season when Carroll hooked up with him again with a cross from the top of the box to the right corner, where Parrelli converted at 61:12 of the second half.

Sophomore midfielder Bill Bernier (Epsom, NH) contributed with a pair of goals for the Saints with the first coming at the 29th minute on a feed from Carroll for a 3-0 margin and his second at the 52:56 mark of the second half on a senior Wilhelm Du Bois' (Key Biscayne, FL) third helper of the day for a 6-0 cushion.

Freshman midfielder Alexander Niski (Oxford, CT) put Emmanuel on the board with his first collegiate goal on an assist from Parrelli just 4:47 into the match.

Carroll registered a goal of his own for a 4-0 lead on a helper from Du Bois at 38:53 for the Saints.  Du Bois was the playmaker again when he found sophomore defender Kevin Esposito (Gales Ferry, CT) for his first goal of the year with 27 seconds left in the first stanza and a 5-0 margin at halftime.

Emmanuel freshman midfielder Tyler Downing (Oxford, MA) recorded his first career goal when he converted a penalty kick at 72:10 and senior midfielder Jeremy Scanlon (Belmont, MA) capped the scoring on a cross from senior Patrick Froass (Oneida, NY) at 77:54.

Freshman keeper Garrett Charette (West Springfield, MA) earned his first career victory with three saves for the Saints.

Emmanuel will be in action again on Saturday, September 24 when it hosts Mount Ida College for a 12:00 p.m. match at Roberto Clemente Field, while the Wildcats travel to Weston, MA on the same day to take on Regis College at 3:00 p.m.
