Hall provides offense in defeat
BOSTON, Mass. - William Hall (Hingham, Mass.) provided a spark of offense with his first goal of the season Saturday afternoon, but it wasn't enough to stop a potent Emmanuel offense as Wheelock fell to Emmanuel College, 9-1 on a rain-soaked afternoon at Clemente Field. Emmanuel senior Dan D'Amato (Huntingdon, Mass.) had a career day, collecting a hat-trick in the first half and adding a fourth tally in the second period to lead the Saints with eight points.
D'Amato broke a scoreless game at the 12:46 mark when teammate Matthew Koenman (Montpelier, Vt.) stole a Wheelock pass at midfield and set D'Amato up for the first score of the game. Three minutes later, the Saints took advantage of another Wildcat miscue when Byron Glaus (Rumford, Me.) found D'Amato in front of the goal for what proved to be the game-winner.
Glaus gave the Saints a three goal advantage only minutes later when his header from a Jonathan Benevides (Lakeville, Mass.) corner kick snuck past diving Wheelock goalie Victor Kashouh (Providence, RI).
Wheelock forward Max Kaim (Fort Lauderdale, Fla.) led the Wildcats with four shots on goal, and provided the assist to teammate William Hall mid-way through the first half to cut the Saints' lead to 3-1. But consecutive goals by the Saints' Kevin Shirley (Madison, Conn.), Koenman, and D'Amato gave Emmanuel a 6-1 advantage at the half. The Saints outshot Wheelock 31-5, and edged the Wildcats in corner kicks, 8-1.
Wheelock goalie Kashouh notched 11 saves on the day, while sophomore goalkeeper Patrick Frost (Oneida, NY) stopped five shots on goal to pick up the win for Emmanuel.
The Wildcats return to action tomorrow afternoon when they travel to Albertus Magnus for a 2:00 pm showdown while Emmanuel travels to Mitchell College on Tuesday.
