Daniel Lee named first head mens lacrosse coach
BOSTON, Mass. – Today Wheelock College Director of
Athletics Diana Cutaia announced that Daniel Lee will head the
College’s inaugural men’s lacrosse team, which is set
to begin intercollegiate play in the spring of 2011.
“We are excited to have an individual of Daniel’s
caliber as our first men’s lacrosse head coach,” said
Athletic Director Diana Cutaia. “Daniel is very knowledgeable
about the sport of lacrosse, and we believe that he has the skills
and drive to build a successful program here at
Wheelock.”
Lee, a native of Sudbury, Mass., will begin the process of
building Wheelock’s program this spring as he recruits for
2011.
“I’m excited about the opportunity to start a program
in Boston,” said Lee. “The Wheelock athletic department
is headed in the right direction, and adding lacrosse to the lineup
will be beneficial to the student body and the Wheelock
experience.”
Lee graduated with a Masters in Sport Management from the
University of Connecticut in the spring of 2009 where he was a
student assistant with the football and men’s basketball
teams.
Lee is well-versed in lacrosse in many different capacities, both
as an athlete at Division I College of the Holy Cross and most
recently, as an operations intern for Major League Lacrosse. At
Holy Cross, Lee received MVP honors (1998), Rookie of the Year
honors (1998), and was the leading scorer two consecutive years
(1998, 1999). During his freshman campaign, Lee was ranked third in
all of Division I in shooting percentage, finishing over 50%.
The 2010-2011 academic year will be the fourth-consecutive year in
which Wheelock has added a men’s sport. Since 2007, Wheelock
has added men’s basketball, tennis, cross country, and soccer
in addition to women’s cross country, soccer, basketball,
field hockey, and softball. In addition to the men’s program,
Wheelock will add a women’s lacrosse team in 2011.
