Reedy Scores 18 to Lead Men's Basketball vs. Regis
CHESTNUT HILL, MA - Sophomore forward Joe Reedy (Orlando, FL) scored a game-high 18 points to lead the Wheelock College men's basketball team in a 69-58 loss to visiting Regis College this evening in a New England Collegiate Conference game on Brunelli Court at Pine Manor College in Chestnut Hill, MA. The Wildcats fall to 1-16 overall and 0-9 in league play, while the Pride improve to 8-10 and 7-3.
Reedy as 7-11 from the floor and added five rebounds, three assists and a blocked shot off the bench for Wheelock. Freshman forward Anthony Williams (White Plains, NY) contributed with 12 points, four rebounds, a pair of blocks and a steal, while senior swingman Paul Coucci (Dartmouth, MA) came off the bench to net 10 points, grab a rebound and dish for an assist. Freshman point guard Nicholas Fenton (East Hartford, CT) chipped in with five points, six assists, four rebounds and a pair of steals.
Down 40-30 at halftime, Wheelock was able to chip away at the deficit, cutting the lead to five after a Williams layup with 9:51 on the clock. However that was as close as Wheelock would get as Regis put together a 17-8 run the rest of the way, including five clutch free-throws from senior guard Ryan Chambers (Abington, MA) to seal the victory.
The first half was a back-and-fourth affair, as the lead changed hands four times. Junior guard Osanto Marc Jr. (Kissimmee, FL) netted 11 first-half points and got the Pride out to a quick lead, scoring the games first four points. After knotting up the game three times, Wheelock took a short-lived lead at the 9:50 mark, as Coucci knocked down a three-pointer, giving the Wildcats a 20-19 lead. The teams then traded baskets with Wheelock taking the lead at 22-21, following a Williams lay-up, with 7:11 to go in the half before Regis closed out the half with a 19-9 run and a 10-point lead.
For Regis, Marc Jr. led the team with 17 points, including six rebounds, while Chambers netted 13 points. Freshman forward Sam Jean-Gilles (Melrose, MA) posted a double-double with 11 points and 11 boards to go with a block and a steal.
Wheelock with continue conference play on the road on Saturday, February 1, when the Wildcats take on Mitchell College at 1:00 p.m. Regis will be in action on the same day at 7:00 p.m., when the Pride host Becker College.
