Rockin' Robbins
CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. – Senior Sherard Robbins (Malden,
Mass.) scored a game-high 26 points while grabbing 16 rebounds to
lead the Wheelock College Wildcats to a convincing 72-57 win over
Endicott College Saturday afternoon. Robbins was 9-16 from the
floor and a perfect 8-8 from the free-throw line as Wheelock
improved to 5-2 on the season while Endicott fell to 3-6. Sophomore
Max Kaim (Fort Lauderdale, Fla.) and junior Dan Main were also in
double-digits for head coach John Preziosa, with 17 and ten points,
respectively.
Head coach John Preziosa had the Wildcats firing on all cylinders
on both sides of the ball and his team never trailed. Endicott
managed to tie the game only twice in the first five minutes of
play before Wheelock put together an 13-4 run over the next six
minutes, sparked by seven points from Kaim, to take a 17-8 lead.
Endicott made a strong run in the final three minutes of the first
half and trailed by only six points heading into the locker room.
But Wheelock opened up the second half with a 12-2 run to extend
the lead to 48-30 at the 14:31 mark.
The Gulls weren’t helped by an unfriendly rim, shooting only
30 percent from the field, going 19-62, including 3-23 from behind
the arc. Chris Galbraith (Lowell, Mass.) had the hot hand for
Endicott, shooting 6-7 from the floor for a team-high 13 points.
Teammate Justin Martin (Cromwell, Conn.) was the only other Gull in
double digits with ten points. Head coach Phil Rowe received a
strong performance from his bench players as they combined for 35
points in the game.
The game was one of defensive intensity, with both teams using
scrappy play and a full court press to force turnovers. Wheelock
came up with 21 steals on the afternoon, led by sophomore Victor
Kashouh (Providence, RI) who had six.
Robbins, meanwhile, came into this season needing only 212 points
to hit the 1,000 plateau and seven games into the season he’s
over half-way there, averaging 16.3 points a game. Robbins will
have a chance to add to that total Monday night when Wheelock hosts
Mount Ida at Pine Manor Monday night at 7:30.
