Hanson shoots Eagles past Wildcats

CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. – There were few spots on the court where Daniel Webster guard Chris Hanson (Salem, Mass.) couldn’t make a shot, as the junior’s 28 points led the Eagles to a 75-71 win over Wheelock College in New England Collegiate Conference action. Hanson was 7-14 from behind the arc and 9-16 from the floor to match Wheelock senior forward Sherard Robbins (Malden, Mass.) who was 11-15 for 28 points as well.

Wheelock (12-7, 5-4 NECC) won the battle of the boards 41-24, but could do little to shut down a strong outside game from Hanson and crew. Teammate Adam Landry (Vernon, Conn.) and Chris Voukides(Salem, NH) each nailed three triples as well, as Landry finished with 11 points and Voukides with 12. Eric Suarez(Brooklyn, NY) was also in double-digits for the Eagles, going 6-9 from the field for 13 points.

Daniel Webster(7-10, 3-4 NECC) shot 55 percent from the floor in the second half, including a 9-17 on three pointers to help the Eagles outscore Wheelock 44-35 in the last twenty minutes of play.

Wheelock’s Eric Rice (Woburn, Mass.) turned in a double-double performance with 12 boards and 11 points.

Wheelock next hosts non-conference opponent Fitchburg State at 7:30 on Thursday while Daniel Webster travels to Elms on Saturday for 4:00 pm tip-off.
