Men down Newbury in conference play
Boston, Mass. - Eleven different players scored
and four more hit double-digits as Wheelock defeated Newbury
College 79-61 Thursday evening. The win moves the Wildcats to an
even 3-3 in conference play, with a chance to go above .500 heading
into tonight's contest against Lesley University.
Sherard Robbins (Malden, MA) scored 13 of his game-high 15 points
in the second half, while teammate Kyle Pierce (Burlington, MA)
netted his second big game of the week, with 13 points, five
boards, and six assists.
Despite the final score, it was touch and go for the Wildcats for
most of the first half, with five ties and eight lead changes. But
Wheelock went on a 13-4 run to stretch the lead to 10 points with
6:43 remaining in the game. The Nighthawks would only get the
lead down to single digits one more time before the game ended.
Head coach John Preziosa's team received a lot of support from the
bench, including 16 second half points.
The Wildcats out-rebounded Newbury 40-37, thanks in large part to
13 boards from Robbins.
Also in double-digits for Wheelock was freshman Max Kaim (Ft.
Lauderdale, FL) with 10 and Dan Main (Hopedale, MA) with 12
points.
The Wildcats will next battle Lesley University at Lesley tonight
at 7:30.
