Robbins scores game-high 23 as Wildcats even record
Chestnut Hill, Mass. - Sherard Robbins scored a
game-high 23 points and freshman Kyle Pierce added 13 as the
Wheelock Wildcats upended Eastern Nazarene College 74-66 on Tuesday
night.
Head Coach John Preziosa's team used tough defense and timely
free-throw shooting in picking up the second win of the season. The
Wildcats were 9-10 from the charity stripe in the last two minutes
of the game and shot 71% for the night. Wheelock led by as many as
13 points with under a minute remaining, but Eastern Nazarene's
Jimmy Gray (West Colombia, SC) knocked in a pair of free throws and
a three pointer to make it a three possession game. The Wildcats
Jordan Pina (New Bedford, MA) drained two free throws to help seal
the win.
The game was tied seven different times in the first half, before
Wheelock went ahead on a jumper by Robbins. The Wildcats added to
the lead permanently in thrilling fashion, when Dan Main (Hopedale,
MA) dunked home two of his nine points on a fastbreak assist from
Robbins.
Eastern Nazarene had four different players in double digits, as
Gray and Kevin Carr (Westminster, MD) led the charge with 14 points
each. DeAngelo Alston (Colombia, SC) and Alex Carr scored 11 and
ten points, respectively.
The win improves Wheelock's record to 2-2, while Eastern Nazarene
falls to 2-3. The Wildcats next travel to Curry College on
Thursday.
