Ballard, Koh to appear on Saturday's Noontime Sports radio program
BOSTON, MA - Wheelock College field hockey sophomore Chelsey Ballard (Mansfield, MA/Mansfield) and head coach Kyoungho Koh will appear on the Noontime Sports radio program on Saturday around 1:20 p.m. to discuss the school's upcoming Showcase 4 Haiti, its second annual student-organized fundraiser to benefit the relief effort in Haiti.
Hosted by Matt Noonan and Dan Libon, Noontime Sports is a weekly one-hour radio show that begins at 1 p.m. and can also be heard online here. On the dial, the program is available in the Boston area on WBNW-AM (1120), Worcester on WCRN-AM (830), and through WESO-AM (970) around Southbridge and Cape Cod. Listeners can call in and e-mail the hosts during the show. Contact information is provided during the broadcast.
For the second straight year, field hockey is the primary organizer behind a fundraiser for Haiti, which is still recovering from a devastating 2010 earthquake. Last year's Walk 4 Haiti earned the school acclaim from the National Association of Division III Athletic Administrators (NADIIIAA) as one of 14 Division III schools honored for community service. The event raised more than $1,000 for the American Red Cross's Haiti Relief and Development Fund.
This year's event, the Showcase 4 Haiti, occurs on Monday, March 28, at 7:30 p.m. in the Wheelock Family Theatre and will incorporate a mixture of musical and spoken performances, dancers and apparel designers. Atlantic Sportswear is sponsoring the event, while Life is good will be a featured vendor. Proceeds from the show will aid the college's relief work in Haiti through such endeavors as the purchase of critical medical equipment for the Pediatrics Ward at the University Hospital in Port-au-Prince.
Ballard started 14 of 16 games last fall, collecting one goal and a pair of assists for the Wildcats, who went 5-3 in the New England Collegiate Conference (NECC). Koh has been named NECC Coach of the Year each of the past two seasons.
