Hefford named to NECC all-conference team

Boston, Mass. - Kylie Hefford was named to the 2008 All-New England Collegiate Conference Field Hockey First Team for her efforts as a midfielder for Wheelock College. Hefford, in her freshman campaign played a crucial role in the success of the Wildcats, helping to lead the team to the playoffs for the second year in a row. Wheelock went 4-15 overall and 4-4 in the NECC before falling to eventually conference champion Becker in the first round of the playoffs.

"Kylie came to the Wheelock College field hockey program with strong foundational skills and with experience having developed her play through the Futures Program," said head coach Kyoungho Koh. "Over the course of the season, she has come more and more into herself as a lead contributor in the midfield with her ability to shift the focus of the play from the left to the right side of the field."

Hefford started all 19 games for Wheelock and recorded two defensive saves on the season. The freshman mid-fielder is a graduate of St. Thomas High School and is currently majoring in Elementary Education.

"Her stick-work and her improved defensive positioning and tackles have caught the eyes of conference coaches to which she has been acknowledged this year as an NECC All-Conference selection," said Koh. "Over the next few years, Kylie is one to watch as she has so well utilized her first season here in the transition to college play."
