Hefford named to NECC all-conference team
Boston, Mass. - Kylie Hefford was named to the
2008 All-New England Collegiate Conference Field Hockey First Team
for her efforts as a midfielder for Wheelock College. Hefford, in
her freshman campaign played a crucial role in the success of the
Wildcats, helping to lead the team to the playoffs for the second
year in a row. Wheelock went 4-15 overall and 4-4 in the NECC
before falling to eventually conference champion Becker in the
first round of the playoffs.
"Kylie came to the Wheelock College field hockey program with
strong foundational skills and with experience having developed her
play through the Futures Program," said head coach Kyoungho Koh.
"Over the course of the season, she has come more and more into
herself as a lead contributor in the midfield with her ability to
shift the focus of the play from the left to the right side of the
field."
Hefford started all 19 games for Wheelock and recorded two
defensive saves on the season. The freshman mid-fielder is a
graduate of St. Thomas High School and is currently majoring in
Elementary Education.
"Her stick-work and her improved defensive positioning and tackles
have caught the eyes of conference coaches to which she has been
acknowledged this year as an NECC All-Conference selection," said
Koh. "Over the next few years, Kylie is one to watch as she has so
well utilized her first season here in the transition to college
play."
