Golden elevated to full-time position within athletic department
BOSTON, MA - Wheelock College has elevated Patrick Golden to a full-time position as an athletics assistant, Director of Athletics Diana Cutaia announced on Wednesday. Golden, who initially joined the staff in September and is heavily involved with such departmental efforts as student-athlete compliance and game-day operations, provides a wealth of prior experience within athletic administration and coaching.
"I am very appreciative of the opportunity that has been provided to me at Wheelock," said Golden. "It is an honor to represent both the athletic department and this prestigious institution. I thank the countless people who have helped me arrive at my current position; I would not be here today without their support."
Golden most recently worked in marketing and event operations for the Boston Cannons of Major League Lacrosse (MLL) during the 2010 season after serving as a defensive backs coach last fall with the Greensboro (N.C.) College football team. From 2005 to 2007, Golden was a football coaching staff assistant for Division I Bucknell University in Lewisburg, Pa. He gained athletic administration experience at both Bucknell and Greensboro, engaging in such areas as student-athlete academic welfare, recruiting and video breakdown.
"Right from the beginning, Patrick proved to be an invaluable member of the Wildcat family," said Cutaia, whose department has now added one full-time and two part-time positions this school year. "We are excited about how Patrick's addition has allowed us to continue broadening the spectrum of what we can achieve."
In 2002, Golden interned for the National Football League's (NFL) San Diego Chargers, providing assistance in the areas of game-day operations and equipment maintenance. As an undergraduate at Division I University of Massachusetts, he was involved with football recruiting, opponent scouting and game-day management all four years before earning a bachelor's degree in political science in 2005. He completed his master's work in education at Bucknell in 2007.
A native of Saugus, Golden was the assistant director of admissions at Bay State College in Boston during the 2007-08 school year before serving as a special education teaching assistant at Lynnfield High School the following school year. In 2009-10, Golden worked with students facing academic challenges at Roosevelt Elementary School in Melrose.
