Willy the Wildcat promotes physical activity and healthy eating
Boston, MA --Members of Jumpstart and athletics
have written a new children’s book starring Wheelock’s
own, Willy the Wildcat, detailing the story of Willy and his family
being physically active and eating healthy. Student-athletes and
members of the athletic department are visiting Jumpstart sites,
reading the book and delivering fitness packs to the preschool
children. Each fitness kit includes a jump rope a pedometer and
sidewalk chalk!
Students Amanda Baldaro, Sara Mahon and Jess Pascoal coordinated
the production of the book, while Hilary Sullivan, Jumpstart Site
Manager, helped oversee the project, along with Athletic Director,
Diana Cutaia. Sara and Alexa Hailey co-authored the activity
book.
Paul Hastings, Director of Academic Assistance and Disability
Services, with the help of the students Yesenia Reales and Abbey
Orobello illustrated Willy’s daily adventures to the park,
jumping rope and picking vegetables with his grandmother. Jennifer
Ong, a member of the registrar’s office helped with the
production the fact sheets that are included in all the fitness
kits.
Willy and student-athletes are visiting the Jumpstart sites this
week and next to encourage active, healthy life styles. This book
and the fitness kits were made possible in part, by a grant from
the Generation Excel Foundation. To learn more about Generation
Excel visit their website at Generation Excel.
