BOSTON, Mass. - Four Wheelock athletes have landed weekly honors in two different sports for the New England Collegiate Conference. This was the first vote for the season, which included contests played between September 1 and September 10.
Junior Katie Frade (Dartmouth, Mass.) won the top honor of NECC Player of the Week for field hockey. Frade has netted four goals on the season, including a game winning goal in a win over New England College. She also has one assist for nine total points. Frade has recorded 15 shots, 9 on goal. She currently leads the conference in goals, points and shots. Frade won Player of the Week three times last season and finished the year with First Team All-Conference honors.
Fellow junior Emma Wilson (Hallowell, Maine) also nabbed top honors in her respective sport by being name NECC Runner of the Week. Wilson finished third overall in her first race of the season by finishing with a time of 23:25.0 at the Southern Vermont College Invitational. She then went on to finish 62nd in the New England College Invitational with a time of 23.25.7.
Wheelock cross country swept the rookie of the week honors when Alexa Tivey (Lowell, Mass.) and Riley Cushing (New Castle, Maine) won for the men's and women's teams. In her debut race, Tivey finished seventh overall with a time of 24:44.0 in the SVC Invitational and then finished 63rd in the NEC Invitational a week later with a personal record of 23:25.9.
Cushing had similar success, with a top ten finish of his own. Cushing led the Wildcats' men with a sixth place finish at Southern Vermont College in 18:37.0. A week later, Cushing led Wheelock again with a 17th place finish in 30:05.6.
