Wheelock Student-Athlete Advisory Committee

The Wheelock College Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) is composed of representatives from each varsity sport and is administered by the Associate Director of Athletics. Members are elected by their teams and recognized by the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) as representatives of Wheelock student-athletes. In accordance with the NCAA, the mission of SAAC is "to enhance the total student-athlete experience by promoting opportunity, protecting student-athlete welfare, and fostering a positive student-athlete image." SAAC broadens communication between student-athletes and the department of athletics while dedicating itself to the betterment of Wheelock Athletics and its relationship to the greater community.

Most meetings take place on the first Thursday of each month at 7:30 a.m. in the CCSR cafeteria. Please check back for future updates or just to see what SAAC is up to.

Annual Theme

Each year, the Wheelock Department of Athletics devises a theme for the year for the student-athletes and the department. This year, with the help of junior and SAAC Co-President Elliot Hernandez, the theme is "Integrity." If you see a Wheelock student-athlete around campus in a T-shirt that says "Integrity," feel free to ask them their definition of the word.

Purpose of the Wheelock College SAAC Program

  • We serve as a liaison between the members of each athletic team and the college's staff.
  • We provide feedback and insight into issues within the Wheelock College Department of Athletics.
  • We create a voice for the student-athletes.
  • We positively represent the image of a student-athlete.
  • We distribute information about the changes of any policies that impact the student-athletes.
  • We organize events that enhance a sense of community. These community events can be focused on improving bonds within our own college family or can include students reaching out to help others in the Boston area.

 Our Goals

  • Create more opportunities for student-athletes to volunteer within the greater community.
  • Establish a page on the Wheelock Athletics website that is dedicated to spreading awareness of SAAC and its mission.
  • Be a powerful voice for all of the students on campus.
