What's Up with the Wildcats Rachel Robohm

Full Name: Rachel Elise Robohm

Sport: Field Hockey

Birthday: August 4, 1991

Hometown: Easton, MA

High School: Oliver Ames

Year: Junior

Major: Elementary Education and Math and Science with a focus in Science. Why did you choose the math and the science to go with elementary ed? Well, at the beginning of my sophomore year, I went to an afterschool program with my math teacher and I loved doing the math with the kids. I was talking to her on the ride back and she said that math and science was one of the top priorities needed for being an education major. So, I changed my major to math and science, because I also really enjoyed taking science in high school and then when I started taking it here, I absolutely loved it. What's your career intention? Well, I want to be a fifth grade teacher, but I can see myself moving into high school and probably teaching science and then eventually moving into administration. What made you want to major in education to begin with? I don't know, I think my whole life I knew that I wanted to do it. When I was little I used to play teacher and stuff, but that was just when I was little. Then as I got older I did community service and we had to choose a classroom and I went to my old math teacher's classroom. I had some great teachers growing up so I think that pushed me towards education and I've always loved working with kids. I've coached field hockey since I was like 15. So, when it came time to choose something, I chose that. As soon as I got into the classes and stuff, I knew it was something I could do and I could do well at.

Nickname: A lot of people call me Robo, but I think it sounds like a transformer. It sounds like a robot.

What do you like most about Wheelock? There's a ton I like about Wheelock. The location, the people. I love the classroom size, because at a lot of other universities you would just be a number in a sea of kids, but here they put a face to a name and they make you feel that you are important and that your education is important.

Where is your favorite place on campus? Probably the field hockey field. I love that place.

What is your favorite sports team? Ahh...the Patriots! Love 'em! So, you're excited about this weekend? Oh my gosh! I can't even start to tell you how excited I am! I love them so much! Have you been to any games in person? I did! I went to the Christmas Eve one and I was crazy! I literally lost my voice for Christmas Eve dinner.

Who is your favorite athlete? Wes Welker. What about Wes Welker does it for you? Have you ever seen him play before? Yeah. Well, that's self-explanatory then.

What is something that most people don’t know about you? They always ask us this on the first day of class. Oh, my long dream was to either be on Survivor or the Amazing Race.

Where is your favorite vacation spot? Me and my family love going out to Colorado. We love Denver. We have family out there and I can see myself moving out there after school. I love it so much. Did you have family in Colorado, who were rooting for the Broncos? They actually came out this past weekend to show us their new baby. They all brought their Tim Tebow jerseys and it was a huge rivalry, but they knew, because they're originally from around here, so they also root for the Patriots too, but they knew it was going to be the way that it ended up.

What accomplishment are you most proud of in your sport? From this past year, I think one of the biggest accomplishments was our Becker game at home. We just have such a big rivalry with them and every year it's just really competitive and tough. This year, we really, really put in a lot of work in for that game, especially. That was one of the best games we've ever played. We pulled it together so well. It gave me chills, it was so exciting. I loved every second of it.

What is your favorite holiday? Christmas. I love Christmas. Why do you like Christmas? I love Christmas Eve because my whole family gets together. My whole family lives on the same street and we all switch off houses every year. We were at my Aunt's house this year. It's just my favorite thing being with my family on Christmas Day. We take our time with opening presents. We just have a lot of fun.

Bacon bits or croutons? Vegetarian, so bacon bits.

Would you rather live in a log cabin or downtown? Oh, that's hard. I love the city, so I could see myself living in the city most of the year, but I have a house on Lake Winnepesaukee. I cannot imagine not having that. If I had to choose one, I would choose the log cabin. How often do you visit the house in Lake Winnepesaukee? When I was little, we would go up all the time in the summer, but now that I'm older and work, we just get up as much as we can, even if it's for a night. It's only a couple hours away. It's so much fun!

What does community service mean to you? Community service is actually a really big part of my life, personally, I've done it ever since I was a little kid. I think it's really important to take time out of our lives to just give back. It doesn't even need to be someone in need, just in general, to just give back or take time out of our lives to do something for someone else. Do you have a favorite community service project that you've done? Last May, I went to New Orleans to do some rebuilding with the Saint Bernard Project and it was one of the best experiences of my whole life.

Do you have any pets? I do. I have a dog named Molly. She's a black lab. How long have you had Molly? Since I was, I would say, 16.

What is your favorite movie or movies? I love "love" movies, like romantic movies, but the movie that I could watch over and over again is "National Treasure". Really? Yep. I've literally always loved it with Nicholas Cage. That movie, I don't know why. I think it's because I love American history and things like that and I love him. I could watch it over and over again and never get sick of it.

What is your favorite artist or band? I love country music, so anyone in country music. Kenny Chesney, Jason Aldean, Darius Rucker, Zach Brown, you name it, I literally love them all.

Favorite pre-game song to get pumped up? Well this year, for our team in the locker room, it was "Rockstar" by Rihanna. We would all just scream it and really it got us excited.

Pepsi or Coke? I'm not a big soda drinker. What do you drink instead? I like fruit water. I like green tea a lot. Juice. Yeah, just not a big soda drinker.

Favorite Cereal? I love oatmeal squares. They don't even taste like oatmeal, but since I was little, I've always liked them, so my Mom still gets them for me. Do you have anything with them? Banana. It's always banana? Yeah, I don't like to put other fruit in my milk. It feels weird, tastes weird.

What is your favorite city or town? Boston. I really like Boston. Where is your favorite place in Boston? I really like to run. I'm a big runner. I think it's called the Infinity Pond. It's right down, kind of close to the Pru. It has like water fountains coming out of it. It's right by Mass Ave. You can look out at the Pru. I like to run there, like right before dark, when they turn the lights on the trees. That's one of my favorites.

What is your favorite ice cream? Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough. Where do you like to get it? We have this place by my house called Crescent Ridge. They make their own ice cream. There's a bunch of cows in the back and it smells, but I like it. Like real cows? Yeah, real cows.

How many foreign countries have you been to? I'm about to go to my first one in March. I'm doing a service learning trip to Ireland. What does a service learning trip like that consist of? Well, this one in particular, you're working with children in an early childhood classroom. Our first class is actually in a couple weeks, so we'll learn a lot more about it. We're going to learn a lot about the war that happened in Northern Ireland and do a lot of sightseeing, but for most of the day we'll be at the classroom just seeing how the classrooms overseas work. How long are you going to be there for? 11 days.

If it could rain something other than rain, what would it rain? I think this is obvious, but money. Think of all the homeless people...they'd be so excited if it rained money.

Who is your favorite Sesame Street character? I was never really a big Sesame Street person. Big Bird kind of scared me when I was little. Definitely not Big Bird. Probably Elmo. My little Sister liked Elmo a lot.

Hats or no hats? Hats. I like hats. Do you where them all the time or what kind of hats do you wear? No, sometimes I'll wear a baseball hat if I'm having a bad hair day or in general. I don't know. I like snap backs, when boys wear snap backs. I think they look good.

Morning or night? I'm a morning person. I can definitely wake up early and I like to get my day started. I don't like to sleep my day away. I like the night too.

Peanut Butter: Crunchy or creamy? Crunchy. Why crunchy? I don't know, I just like it.

Favorite Season? I think Spring into Summer. It's the best weather. Why do you like that? Because it's about to be Summer and my birthday is in the Summer. I don't know. I just really like it. It's not too hot and it's not too cold.

Who's your favorite Family Guy character? I don't usually watch Family Guy, but when my Dad has it on, I think they're all hilarious. I think the little baby is really funny. Oh, Stewie. Yeah, I think he's funny. What is your preferred TV show to watch? This is so stupid, but reality shows are my guilty pleasure. I love The Bachelor, Survivor, American Idol. The Kardashians. So, basically everything on MTV, VH1....I never usually have MTV on...there's nothing on MTV, well, sometimes I watch Jersey Shore. So, you have the E! Network on? Yeah, I love E! and then I love ABC, because that's like The Bachelor. So, you're excited that American Idol has started again? Yes. Me and my roommates have been watching the auditions. They're soo funny. At least one of us will get tears in our eyes for a really good one. It's so embarrassing.
