What's Up with the Wildcats Matthew Howard

Full Name: Matthew John Howard

Sport: Soccer and Lacrosse

Birthday: May 25, 1990

Hometown: Brunswick, ME

High School: Brunswick

Year: Senior

Major: Social work.  Why did you choose that?  I think it was a combination of things.  I originally wanted to be a police officer.  I realized that they're just kind of putting out fires, but I wanted to be able to prevent that kind of stuff from happening.  That was pretty much the main factor.

Nickname: Matty Ho

What do you like most about Wheelock? The small size.  I like being able to recognize everyone and say hi to people.

Where is your favorite place on campus?  Probably the green, because we can throw around out there for lacrosse.

What is your favorite sports team?  Patriots or Bruins, I can't decide.  Have you always been a football/hockey fan?  Yeah, my Dad's like really big into hockey.  He loves the Bruins.  He watches every game.  It's cool, he came down for the parade and stuff.

Who is your favorite athlete? That's tough.  I love Zdeno Chara, but Tim Thomas is up there too.  What do you like most about those guys?  I like Thomas' resilience, because he didn't get into the NHL until he was in his thirties.  I love that about him, how he just kept trying.  He played in the minor leagues, he played in Europe, he didn't care, he just wanted to play.

What is something that most people don’t know about you?  I still play with Legos.  I have a ton of legos in my room.  Any particular size of Legos?  I like the little guys.  I went to the Lego store in New York last January and they had so many cheap Legos.

Where is your favorite vacation spot?  Probably Florida.  I have family down there.  I like the Tampa area.  How often do you get down there?  We used to go like once a year, but I haven't been there for a couple years now, probably because I've been busy with school.

What accomplishment are you most proud of in your sport?  Playing in all the games for the first two years of the soccer program.

What is your favorite holiday?  Christmas.  Why Christmas?  It's a good time for everybody to get together.  I like the snow.  Except when you're playing soccer?  Except when I'm playing soccer.

Bacon bits or croutons?  Definitely bacon bits.  Why do you have a preference for them?  Because it's bacon.  How can you not like bacon?  Croutons are just like stale bread.

Would you rather live in a log cabin or downtown?  A log cabin in downtown.  Because I like downtown, but log cabins are pretty awesome.

What does community service mean to you?  It's something that everybody should do if they have time.  What's been your favorite community service project?  I used to like doing Relay for Life back in high school.  That was cool.  What is Relay for Life?  You get teams together to raise money for cancer.  You walk all night.  It was cool in high school, the whole community got into it.

Do you have any pets?  Yeah, we have a pet cat in my apartment.  He's there for like mice catching purposes.  Do you live off campus?  Yeah, I'm in an apartment behind Fenway Park, actually, so it's close.

What is your favorite movie or movies? The Blues Brothers.  What do you like so much about it?  Everyone's in that movie and there's so much music and it's funny and based on SNL.  I love SNL.  John Belushi's the man.

What is your favorite artist or band?  Probably Iron Maiden.  I've seen them a couple times in concert, which is cool, because they were big in the 80s and 90s mostly and they're still touring.  It's awesome.

Favorite pre-game song to get pumped up?  Probably the classic "Crazy Train" by Ozzy.

Pepsi or Coke?  Coke.  Why Coke?  I just think it tastes better, but Pepsi has Mountain Dew, so they have that compelling argument.

Favorite Cereal?  Fruity Pebbles, probably.  I grew up on those.  Is it because they're Flintstones themed?  Yeah and they have cool mazes and stuff on the back of the box back in the day.  You do realize that it's basically sugar held together by food coloring, right?  That's fine.  Who cares?

What is your favorite city or town? Probably Boston.  I love Boston.  Where's your favorite place in Boston?  I really like the gardens during the Summer.  This past Summer was like the first time living in Boston full-time.  It was really cool.  The city's like kind of empty for the summer, except for like the touristy spots, it's crazy.  I really like that.

What is your favorite ice cream?  I don't really eat ice cream.  Any kind of cookie dough ice cream, I guess.  Like I said, I don't really eat ice cream.  I'm not big into sweets and stuff.

How many foreign countries have you been to?  Two.  I've been to Canada quite a few times and I went to Hong Kong back in my freshman year of high school.  I think it's a requirement for all Maine residents to visit Canada.  I know.  I have family up there too.  My family's from like the Buffalo area, so there up by like Toronto.

If it could rain something other than rain, what would it rain?  Strawberry milk.  Why is that?  It's the best kind of milk.  Everyone's about chocolate milk, but I like strawberry.

Who is your favorite Sesame Street character? The Cookie Monster, but I heard he eats carrots now or something.  So, I guess he's the Carrot Monster.  Whatever his name is.

Hats or no hats?  No hats.  Why is that?  Usually, I have like longer hair, so it's just like take your hat off and you have the hat hair.

Morning or night?  Night.  Why?  I feel like my body doesn't really wake up until the afternoon anyway.  I hate waking up early.

Peanut Butter: Crunchy or creamy?  Crunchy.  It's about the texture.  It doesn't matter about the taste, just the texture?  Just the texture.

Favorite Season?  Probably Fall, because the weather's like perfect.  I don't like it being too hot.

Who's your favorite Family Guy character?  Probably Chris.  He's really fun.  I think he's kind of underrated.  Everybody likes Peter and Stewie.
