What's Up with the Wildcats Kimberly Rogers

Full Name: Kimberly Ellen Rogers

Sport: Soccer

Birthday: February 9, 1990

Hometown: Derby, CT

High School: Derby

Year: Senior

Major: Human Development and Elementary Education with a focus in Psychology.  What made you decide that you wanted to choose that to study?  I've always known that I liked kids and when I was in eighth grade, I was really obsessed with Clay Aiken from American Idol and he was a special education teacher.  So, I thought that I know I like kids, so maybe I'd like to be a teacher.  So, that just sort of got me on the teaching path.  So, is that your career intention - a special ed teacher?  I plan on getting my masters in special education for the purposes of being an inclusive teacher.

Nickname: Kim.  My roommates call me Kimerly without the "b", because one time in the soccer game program, they had left out the "b" in my name.

What do you like most about Wheelock? I really like it's mission to provide for children and family.  That's something that really drew me to Wheelock.  It's just something that I really believe in and the fact that the professors, the classes, the people that go here all commonly really believe in that.  It's something that's just really special, because you can go to a school with like a liberal arts and it's just a program.  The entire school (Wheelock) just embodies that and that's a really unique quality.

Where is your favorite place on campus?  I have no idea.  The soccer field?  I guess.

What is your favorite sports team?  The Women's Soccer team.

Who is your favorite athlete? Mia Hamm.  Did you grow up watching Team USA?  Did you watch them in the '99 World Cup?  Yes.  When I was growing up, I had two sort of obsessions with sports.  First it was Mia Hamm.  I learned everything about Mia Hamm and I decided that I wanted to go to University of North Carolina and play there for soccer.  I was obsessed with that.  I had like posters in my room.  Then, I played basketball in middle school and I really got into the UConn women's basketball team.  I decided that I wanted to go to UConn for basketball, but of course you have to be literally the best players in the nation to go to either of those schools.  Those were sort of my teams that I continuously root for.

What is something that most people don’t know about you?  I worked at Disney World.  In what capacity and when?  The spring semester, of my sophomore year, I did an internship at Disney World.  I work as an Attractions Cast Member at the Animal Kingdom.  Now, I'm a representative for the program, so currently, I'm like a seasonal cast member.  So, as a "Cast Member" are you like a character?  Um, no, just an employee for the Disney company.  Cast member is the term they use for employees.  In the Disney mind, they're putting on a show, so everyone is part of the show.

Where is your favorite vacation spot?  Disney (laughs).  So, how often have you been to Disney World?  Um, say once a year since I was two or three.  Wow!  How long do you usually stay for?  Like a week.  My family belongs to what's called the Disney Vacation Club.  You get special deals and things like that?  Yes, you basically buy accomodations for 40 years.  40?!  Yeah, you pay a certain amount of money and you get what's called "points" and you get a certain amount of points per year.  You get to use those points on like a room at a hotel and things like that.

What accomplishment are you most proud of in your sport?  I think just playing at the college level.  So many people just say, after high school, "that's it".  I think it's unique, because at Division III you get that opportunity and can still hang onto it in the capacity of you didn't really think you would be able to.  It's special to be able carry on the sport that you love for those extra years.

What is your favorite holiday?  Say Christmas.  What do you like about Christmas?  I just like being with family and just the feeling of Christmas.  Leading up to it and everyone sort of comes together.  It's a nice feeling.

Bacon bits or croutons?  Croutons.  Why croutons?  Because I feel like bacon is something that is served at breakfast and I don't like it on my salads.

Would you rather live in a log cabin or downtown?  Downtown.  Why downtown?  I love the city.  I love everything about a city.  I will always, always live in a city.  What's your favorite part of Boston?  Just the fact that you can just step out and do anything.  There's so much to do.  It's exciting.

What does community service mean to you?  Community service is sort of putting yourself out there into the community and lending a hand or giving to the community a service that maybe you are good at.  Growing up as a Girl Scout, community service is really something that you need to do.  No matter how big or small it is, whatever you can give back is important.  It's just something you should be doing as a human being.  You have this obligation to help others out.  Do you have a favorite community service project that you've done?  In high school there was a member of a youth leadership group and they did a can drive.  They did what's called "Harvest House" and with the cans they built a house out of the cans, obviously supported by like a structure.  It was really cool.  You could walk into a huge house like the size of a room.

Do you have any pets?  Yes, I have a dog.  What's your dog's name?  Oreo.  Is Oreo a boy or a girl?  A girl.  What kind of dog is it?  She's a mutt, but she's primarily long-haired dachshund, but she does not have a hot dog body.  So, is she a black and white dog?  She is.

What is your favorite movie or movies? My favorite movie is "Oliver" the musical.  I fell in love with it when I was like seven years old and I watched it like a hundred times.  It's my favorite movie.

What is your favorite artist or band?  My favorite music artist would be Clay Aiken.  I just really like his music.  I like what he stands for as a person.  You got hooked on him from American Idol?  Yeah.  Were you a fan of his right from the start of the show?  I just happened to watch the wildcard show of American Idol and from that episode, yes.  I really like what he stands for.  He has a lot going on.

Favorite pre-game song to get pumped up?  "Wavin' Flag" by K'NAAN.  It was supposed to be the World Cup song and then Shakira took over and ruined it.  If you see other teams playing it on the field or we play it, I love just randomly on my own just start dancing.

Pepsi or Coke?  Pepsi.  Why Pepsi?  I prefer the taste.  It's better.

Favorite Cereal?  Multigrain Cheerios.  Delicious.

What is your favorite city or town? New York City.  It's such a shame to say this because I live in Boston, but if I could move to New York City, I would do it and I'd be broke.  Where's your favorite place in New York City?  Any Broadway theater.  Is that why you love New York so much?  It's part of the reason why I love New York, just because as much as there's a lot of things to do in Boston, there's just so much more to do in New York.  Step outside and you can do a different thing every day.  Even if you get out of the Times Square touristy area.  There are different neighborhoods and it's so exciting to just walk down the street and see what you can find.  I have gone there every year since I was probably 10 and there are tons of things I have never done.

What is your favorite ice cream?  Cake Batter. Where's your favorite place to get that from? I guess Coastal Creamery. I think they invented cake batter ice cream.

How many foreign countries have you been to?  One.  Which one?  Mexico.  When did you go there?  I went there on a cruise.  That was the only foreign country they stopped at?  It was like a Bahamas like trip.  I mean, I guess you could consider islands, but they're not really countries.  I think they're considered countries, the Carribean Islands.  Yeah, so many two.  I'm not geographically inclined.

If it could rain something other than rain, what would it rain?  I think it would rain Surge.  do you remember that soda?  Surge.  The best soda ever.  They don't make it anymore?  It disappeared.

Who is your favorite Sesame Street character? Cookie Monster.  Why Cookie Monster?  Because cookies are awesome.

Hats or no hats?  No hats, unless it's a Yankees cap.

Morning or night?  Night.  Why night?  I love to sleep and I don't like getting up in the morning.  It's more exciting at night.

Peanut Butter: Crunchy or creamy?  Um, creamy.  Why creamy?  I don't like things crunching in my peanut butter.  It's a texture thing.

Favorite Season?  Say Spring.  It's like just perfect weather.  It's not too cold and it's not too hot.

Who's your favorite Family Guy character?  I don't like it.  You don't like it, don't watch it?  I have a thing against comedy that has to degrade other people for it to be funny.  So, what would you consider a good comedy then or does that eliminate them all?  No, I like comedy.  I mean, it can be funny, but if you have to tear down another person for it to be funny then I'm not for it.  What's your favorite show on TV? Hmm. Well, let's see.  First there was Vampire Diaries and then I kind of fell in love with Glee, so I would have to say it's Glee right now.  Glee makes perfect sense for you.  Yeah, I didn't actually watch Glee from the beginning.  My parents actually watched it.  I started watching Glee for an actor Darren Criss.  I hear that he was going to be on it, so then I started watching it.
