What's Up with the Wildcats Connor Walsh

Full Name: Connor Francis Walsh

Sport: Soccer and Lacrosse

Birthday: August 13, 1992

Hometown: Northborough, MA

High School: Saint John's

Year: Sophomore

Major: Elementary Education/Humanities.  I was a camp counselor for five years, so I knew right away that I wanted to work with kids.  I'd like to become an elementary school teacher.

Nickname: Walshy.  They used to call my Dad that in high school too.  How long have they been calling you that? A little in high school, but moreso in college.  Dan's (Campbell) from my hometown.  He started calling me that and the guys started calling me that on the field.  My teammates will call me that on campus, so other people on campus start calling me that too.

What do you like most about Wheelock? I like how close it is.  It feels a lot more homey than the other colleges I visited, because everyone is so close and knows each other.  I like walking into the caf and knowing like half the people in there.  Everyone greets you.

Where is your favorite place on campus?  Probably the school store.  I've already spent all my dining dollars and Fenway Cash there.  What do you get in the school store? Gatorade and snacks, while I'm studying.  I'm completely out of money already.  So, you're going to have to give your parents a call.  Of course.

What is your favorite sports team?  Red Sox.  I used to follow them with my Dad since I was little and I've been to a bunch of games.  Not as much recently, since I moved to Boston for school, but before I came, I went at least once a year to a series.

Who is your favorite athlete? I'd have to say Lance Armstrong, just based on everything he's overcome and how he achieved what he did through everything that he's gone through.  Had you been interested in cycling before? No, definitely not, but I liked following his story.

What is something that most people don’t know about you?  I come from a family of four.  I have a bigger family.  A lot of people think that I'm an only child, but I actually have an older Brother and I have younger siblings also.  What's the age difference? My older Brother is 19 months, almost two years older than me, but a year older in school.  My little Brother is just turned 13 and my younger Sister is 14.

Where is your favorite vacation spot?  Definitely Maine.  We haven't gone recently, but every time we go we usually stay in either Wells or Ogunquit for a week.  I really like it over there.

What accomplishment are you most proud of in your sport?  I just started both (soccer and lacrosse), so I really haven't achieved too much.  I like that I've played a few full games.  I didn't even know that I'd be starting to begin with, let alone playing the whole game.  So, that's an accomplishment within itself.

What is your favorite holiday?  Definitely Christmas, just because we get so much time off.  That and I just like the feeling around Christmas, the atmosphere that everyone is close and comes together.  It's not about gifts or anything, I just like going to both my Grandparents house and spending the whole day with my family.

Bacon bits or croutons?  Bacon bits, definitely bacon bits.  I put bacon bits on everything at home, so hands down, that wins.

Would you rather live in a log cabin or downtown?  Probably before I came here I'd say a log cabin, but since I've been moved to the city, definitely downtown.  It's where everyone is, everything's going on, there's never a dull night or a dull moment.  Do you have a favorite place in the city that you go to?  Sometimes I walk around Fenway, especially when they're about to have a game.  Just the other day, we ran down to the store and I wanted to walk around Fenway and I ended up meeting Dennis Eckersley.  I just like being around there right around game time.

What does community service mean to you?  It means giving back, because I know the comunity works hard so that you can do what you do.  So just giving back to the community, whether it be picking up on the streets or just helping out around.  I did community service hours in high school in order to graduate, but since I volunteered at my YMCA I went above and beyond that, helping to coach classes.  Just giving back, but not earning anything through it.  Is there a community service project that you enjoyed more than others? We did a lot of retreats.  I liked going to the nursing home best, because I had never gone before and we took the seniors outside.  I guess they hadn't been outside in a while and it was amazing for them to be outside just to change it up.  I talked to this one guy about the Red Sox and he can't watch TV, so he just found out what was going on with them from me.  So, you were kind of like his TV then?  Basically, for the day, yeah.

Do you have any pets?  Nope, I'm allergic to cats and my Mom is allergic to dogs.

What is your favorite movie or movies? Wedding Crashers is my favorite movie, because I love like Will Ferrell, Owen Wilson.  I'm big on comedies, moreso than action, I like something to make me laugh.

What is your favorite artist or band?  I listen to everything, but I'm big into country, so I'd have to say I really like Zac Brown Band.  I went to one of their concerts last summer and it just blew me away.  Where did you see them in concert? Mansfield at the Comcast Center.  I try and go there at least once a year to see someone perform.

Favorite pre-game song to get pumped up?  Probably, "Till I Collapse" by Eminem.  Just something like really heavy, where its really fast, so I can just get in the zone.

Pepsi or Coke?  Definitely Coke.  I've always drinked Coke.

Favorite Cereal?  Probably, Cap'n Crunch.  Why Cap'n Crunch? It's just fruity, just different.

What is your favorite city or town?  Definitely Boston.  I grew up around the Worcester area and it doesn't even compare.  I go back to Worcester and I'm just like this is nothing.

What is your favorite ice cream?  It was cookie dough before I came to Wheelock, but suddenly at Wheelock it's mint chocolate chip, because out of the variety of selection they have here, I chose that one.  Definitely the best.

How many foreign countries have you been to?  None.  I've actually been in a plane once and that was to California.

If it could rain something other than rain, what would it rain?  That's kind of out there, but I don't know, pretzel M&Ms.  So, you really like the new pretzel M&Ms?  Yeah, I love the new pretzel M&Ms, actually, I just bought five bags of them.

Who is your favorite Sesame Street character? Elmo for sure.  I actually have a huge six-foot Elmo doll at home that used to protect me at night when I was a kid, that I still have to this day.  You know this is going to go on the web, right?  I'm totally cool with that.

Hats or no hats?  Definitely hats.  I rock a baseball hat all the time.

Morning or night?  Night.  It's tough for me to get up in the morning, unless I'm going to work out.  I'm definitely a night person.

Peanut Butter: Crunchy or creamy?  Definitely crunchy.  I like peanuts.

Favorite Season?  Summer, for sure.  That's when my birthday is and that's when we go on vacation.  So, I can do whatever I want basically during the summer, besides work, I don't have any obligations.

Favorite Family Guy character?  Stewie.  Stewie makes the whole show.  Without Stewie, Family Guy wouldn't exist.
