What's Up with the Wildcats Allison Rogers

Full Name: Allison Rae Rogers

Sport: Soccer

Birthday: October 17

Hometown: Millbury, MA

High School: Millbury

Year: Senior

Major: Early Childhood Education/Human Growth and Development with a focus in psychology.  What made you decide to have that as a major?  When I was in high school, I started working in a kindergarten classroom and then I worked in pre-school kindergarten.  I just loved spending the afternoon with the kids in the class, so I knew that's what I wanted to do for a career.  How did you come about doing that in high school?  We had a child development program at my high school where you could leave in the afternoon and go work in the school system.

Nickname: Allie and Al, but nothing that creative.

What do you like most about Wheelock? I like that Wheelock is a really small school, because when you go to class the professors are engaged with everyone that's there.  If you don't go to class, they notice and can help you catch up if you miss (class) for a game.  They just get to know each student individually.  You get to know all the other students in your class, so it's really easy to form friendships and be parts of things.

Where is your favorite place on campus?  It's not exactly on campus, but the Winsor Soccer Field.  Is that just for obvious reasons that you're a soccer player?  Yeah, I just love playing soccer.  Have you played your entire life?  I started when I was five years old and I actually stopped playing when I was in junior high.  I didn't start playing again until I reached college.

What is your favorite sports team?  The Bruins.  Have you always been a hockey fan?  Not always, but a lot of my friends at home are into hockey, so that got me into it.

Who is your favorite athlete? Tim Thomas.  Why Tim Thomas?  He's my favorite athlete because he's really good and he always gives his full effort.  He puts everything out there for his team.

What is something that most people don’t know about you?  Maybe that I'm an only child.

Where is your favorite vacation spot?  Walt Disney World!  How many times have you been there?  Usually like at least one or two times a year.  Really?  More than once a year?  How long has this been going on for?  Since I was in my Mom's stomach.  So, every year that you've been alive, you've been to Walt Disney World?  Once or twice and sometimes even more.  So, that is your "Something most people don't know about you".  Most people know it.  If you walk in my room it's all Disney.  Why is this?  What's the obsession with Disney World?  I just really like going and I've always gone there and spent time with my family.  I like going on vacation.  I like seeing all the new things that are being added.

What accomplishment are you most proud of in your sport?  It's not a specific accomplishment, but any time that I can make a good pass or set a teammate up or just do anything or play a position when we need it.  Just something to help out the team.  Any time that happens it's my goal and my accomplishment.

What is your favorite holiday?  Christmas.  Why is that?  I really like Christmas, because you have a little break from school and you get to go home to see your friends, your family.  We have a lot of people travel down to come see us and just getting to spend time with those people.

Bacon bits or croutons?  Croutons!

Would you rather live in a log cabin or downtown?  Downtown.  Why downtown?  When I came to Wheelock, one of the reasons I really liked it was because it was in the city.  I just love that if you want to go out somewhere there are always places to go and always things to do.  Do you have a favorite place in Boston?  I really just like wandering around the city, walking, going in and out of places all day.

What does community service mean to you?  Giving back to something that's given you so much.  My view of community would be something that's given you so much.  I grew up in a town that was really supportive.  From coaches that gave their time after work to show up and help and teach the sport, to all the opportunities they gave us in high school to scholarships and everything else.  So any time that you have the opportunity to give back for all of that stuff you were given -- to me that's really important.  What's your favorite community service project that you've done?  My favorite community service thing that I did actually goes back to high school.  It was when we went down to New Orleans right after the hurricane.  We got to help rebuild the school.  We did a lot of painting and a lot of moving furniture around and setting things up.  The children sent us pictures of their first day.  We started collecting materials for them.  We made it so it wasn't just a one day thing and followed through with it and stuck with it.  That really meant a lot and I think that made a big difference.

Do you have any pets?  I have a dog named Simba.  How long have you had the dog for?  I've had him since I was in fourth grade and had a dog named Midas before that.  What kind of dog is Simba?  He's a collie and golden retriever mix.  We rescued him from the pound when he was a year and a half.  He was at the game.  He was the one singing the National Anthem last game.  Did you hear a dog barking through the whole National Anthem?  That was my dog.

What is your favorite movie or movies? I really like Titanic.  I really like Pretty Woman.  Oldies.  Oldies?  You know those came out after I went to college.  Yeah.  Maybe we better leave that part out of the interview.

What is your favorite artist or band?  I'm into so many different types of music, but I would have to say my favorite artist would be Pink.  Why Pink?  Well, she's been like really popular probably since I was in fourth of fifth grade.  She's continuously coming out with new hits.  I've seen her perform a couple times.  She puts on an amazing show.

Favorite pre-game song to get pumped up?  Headstrong by Trapt.

Pepsi or Coke?  I don't like soda.  What do you prefer to drink instead?  Milk.

Favorite Cereal?  Kix or Multigrain.  Kix, why?  I don't like things that are overly sweet or have a lot of flavor, so that's why I like plain cereal.  So, Uncle Ben's Brown Rice or grits are right up your alley?  Never had it.

What is your favorite city or town? I think I would have to say Boston.

What is your favorite ice cream?  Vanilla.  Shocking.  Another plain choice.

How many foreign countries have you been to?  Four.  Which ones were they?  I've been to Aruba, Mexico, the Bahamas and I've been to Canada.

If it could rain something other than rain, what would it rain?  Men.  Men?  So, you're a big fan of the song then?  It's my alarm.  Is it really?  Yep.

Who is your favorite Sesame Street character? Big Bird.  Why Big Bird?  To be honest, because one of my pre-schoolers was telling me how great he is today.

Hats or no hats?  No hats.

Morning or night?  Definitely night.  Why is that?  Because I do not like morning practices.

Peanut Butter: Crunchy or creamy?  Crunchy.  Why crunchy?  I love putting peanut butter on apples.  That's my favorite snack.

Favorite Season?  Summer.  Why Summer?  Because during the Summer I work a lot, but I'm also not in school and working, so I have free time.  I usually try and do a vacation then.  I try and go to the beach with my friends a lot.  Just hang out at night with people and have a good time.  What do you do for work in the Summer?  I worked at Stop & Shop for six years and last Summer I worked at Red Robin as well.  Does it offend you that I shop at Shaws?  No.

Who's your favorite Family Guy character?  I've never seen the show.  I don't watch that much TV, so I've just never seen it.  If you do watch TV, what's your favorite show?  King of QueensAre you disappointed that it's off the air now?  Yeah.  I have the box sets, though, so I still watch.  I just really like it, because it's one of those things that you can just put on while you're doing something.
